The Pink Squirrel is a frothy chocolate almond retro concoction invented in the 1940s in a cocktail lounge in Milwaukee.

My Mom is so not a drinker. She can probably count on one hand the number of cocktails she's had in the last 5 decades.

But in the late 60s when she was a newlywed, she and my Dad used to go to lots of house parties and also host their own, and she admitted to me that she did love a Pink Squirrel on occasion!

This cocktail uses only three ingredients and is super easy to make. It's such a great retro cocktail to serve during the holidays, along with its counterparts the Grasshopper and Golden Cadillac

Also check out my Violet Dream cocktail. Not a retro recipe, but it also shares the same ingredients, so serving all, or a combination, at your holiday parties is a no-brainer.

They're such festive, sweet after dinner cocktails that you could even serve them in lieu instead of dessert if you wanted.

The Pink Squirrel Ingredients

Heavy cream makes up the bulk of the Pink Squirrel. That gives the drink its creamy, thick consistency, almost like an ice cream float.

Added to that is White Creme de Cacao which is a clear chocolate and vanilla flavored liqueur.

The third and final ingredient is Creme de Noyaux which is a distilled liqueur made infusing crushed stone fruit pits. It tastes like almonds and is bright red in color.

The Pink Squirrel is the perfect holiday sipper!
